Small Hotel Marketing Ideas for a Tiny Team | Kiyo

12 low-cost small hotel marketing ideas for quiet dates, a simple idea picker table, a pick-3 rule and a 30-minute weekly routine for a tiny team.

For a big hotel, marketing is a department. For a small one, it is a few habits. The goal is simple: more of the right guests on the dates that need them, without cutting your price to the bone.

Some marketing work has its own guides on our blog. To get more bookings on your own website, see our guide to direct bookings for small hotels (opens in new tab). For being found on Google and in AI answers, see hotel website SEO for AI search (opens in new tab). This page stays on low-cost promotion ideas.

Market the dates that are empty, not the dates that are already full. Open your calendar and mark three kinds of dates for the next two or three months.

Every country has its own calendar. In Indonesia, the government publishes the national holidays and collective leave days (cuti bersama) once a year. The 2027 list (opens in new tab) has 18 national holidays and 8 collective leave days. It puts Nyepi on 8 March and Idul Fitri on 10 and 11 March 2027. Dates like these shape when domestic guests travel, so plan around them early. If you are near Bali, our Nyepi 2027 planning guide (opens in new tab) covers that week.

Lead time matters too. If your guests usually book a few weeks ahead, a promotion for next weekend comes too late. Our guide to hotel booking lead time (opens in new tab) shows how to check yours.

These ideas need little or no budget. Each one fits a type of date. You will not use them all.

Use this table to choose. The cost and time columns are example bands for a small team, not measured figures. Your own numbers will differ.

Use one simple rule: one idea for repeat guests, one for new guests, and one for the emptiest dates.

Three ideas done well beat ten ideas started. At the end of the month, keep what worked and swap out what did not.

Block 30 minutes on the same day each week. Monday morning works well for many owners.

If your team sends offers by WhatsApp, keep it respectful. On the WhatsApp Business app, broadcast lists (opens in new tab) only reach contacts who have saved your number. Only message guests who agreed to hear from you. Our guide to WhatsApp guest messaging for hotels (opens in new tab) has more on tone and timing.

You do not need a marketing team to measure. Check three things after each promotion ends:

Compare the same dates with the same period last year when you can. Our guide to occupancy, ADR and RevPAR (opens in new tab) explains the three numbers that tell you whether a promotion helped revenue, not only occupancy. If a gap keeps appearing between bookings, our post on minimum stays and booking gaps (opens in new tab) may help more than a promotion.

Kiyo's direct booking engine and website editor give your promotions somewhere to send guests, and the same calendar holds every booking. You can set up a package as its own direct-booking-only rate plan, and a long-stay offer as a minimum stay, so it shows clearly to guests and to your team.

The revenue reports show channels and dates in separate tabs, which keeps your weekly check short. On Pro and higher plans, your reviews and guest messages from WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook sit in one inbox, so replies to a promotion do not get lost. Every plan connects to 75+ booking channels.

Kiyo is live and open to all properties. We set it up with you over WhatsApp or a demo call. Plans start from Rp40k per room per month; the pricing page slider (opens in new tab) shows your exact price.

Start with your quiet dates, then pick three low-cost ideas: one for past guests, one for new guests and one for the emptiest week. Run them every week for a month before you judge them.

Pair the room with one local extra: dinner, a tour, a spa visit, a bike rental or a celebration add-on. Keep each package simple and give it a clear name and price.

Offer long-stay rates, local business rates and packages for domestic weekends. Tell past guests early, and use targeted OTA promotions only for specific gaps.

Yes, if you keep it simple. One account with a short, real video each week does more than several accounts posted to once a month.

Try value first, such as breakfast, a late check-out or a free transfer. Use OTA discounts for specific gaps in the next couple of weeks, not as your normal price.

Agree on a simple referral with a tour operator, café or activity nearby. Share each other's details with guests, and use a code word so you both see what worked.

Run three ideas a month and review them at the end of the month. Keep what worked and replace what did not.

Check bookings on the target dates, which channel they came from and the rate you sold at. Compare with the same dates last year when you can.
