It’s time for a new codeshare, with British Airways choosing to codeshare with Mexican airline Viva, giving passengers greater choice and connectivity when travelling between Mexico, the UK and Europe.

Through the new agreement, British Airways customers will be able to book connecting journeys to or from 13 destinations across Mexico served by Viva, including Guadalajara, Monterrey and Puerto Vallarta, when travelling via Mexico City and Cancun to London.

13 destinations operated by Viva will be bookable under a British Airways flight code on ba.com, allowing customers to book their entire journey in a single transaction for a simpler and more convenient travel experience.

For members of The British Airways Club, there’s additional good news, as they will also be able to earn Avios and tier points when travelling on this codeshare. Note that you cannot redeem Avios for flights on Viva, nor can you earn Avios or British Airways Club tier points on Viva flights which are not booked in conjunction with the codeshare.

The partnership will provide customers travelling from London and across Europe with greater access to destinations throughout Mexico, while customers beginning their journey in Mexico will be able to connect in London to British Airways’ extensive global network of more than 200 destinations.

When launched in late March 2027, the following hubs and routes will have codeshares available:

Codeshare flights with Viva are available to book now through British Airways’ usual booking channels, for travel from 28 March 2027.

Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways said:

“We’re excited to launch our new codeshare partnership with Viva, opening up more of Mexico to our customers and providing greater choice when planning their journeys. Mexico has been an important part of our network for over 60 years, and this agreement marks a new moment in that long history. By bringing together Viva’s extensive domestic network with British Airways’ global connectivity, we’re making it easier for customers to travel between Mexico, London and destinations across our wider network.”

Javier Suarez, Executive Vice President & Chief Planning and Alliances Officer at Viva said:

“We are excited about this new partnership with British Airways. Connecting British Airways’ services with our network from Mexico City and Cancún will allow their customers to seamlessly reach many more destinations across Mexico. Likewise, passengers from cities across our network will be able to connect through Mexico City or Cancún and board a British Airways flight to Europe and beyond, all with the convenience of a single ticket.”

Viva positions itself as a low-cost carrier, operating a fleet of 110 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. It connects its passengers to over 60 destinations in Mexico, the US, Colombia, Costa Rica and Cuba.

But it’s a low-cost carrier, so there will be no fancy seats at the front, just the usual tight 180 (A320) / 186 / (A320neo) / 220 (A321) / 240 (A321neo) seats, with Acro Series 3ST seats for the A320neo/A321neo, and older Safran/Recaro seats in older A320 and A321 respectively.

Viva will provide some useful connectivity for BA passengers when travelling long-haul and needing another hop to get to their destination.

In what comfort level – is another matter.
