ROCK SPRINGS — The Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport reported strong passenger numbers in August and September, which it says reinforces its role as a critical transportation link in the region.

August’s passenger numbers were 2.6% above the August 2025 numbers, reaching the highest number for the month since 2012. September saw the highest number for the month since 2011, showing a 3.8% increase over September 2025. The airport also reports it is seeing strong advance bookings for the fourth quarter.

“These passenger numbers show that southwest Wyoming continues to use and value its airport,” Airport Director Devon Brubaker said. “Strong demand, excellent flight completion, and reliable service give residents and businesses confidence that they can reach their destinations safely while supporting jobs, visitor spending, and economic opportunity here at home. With fourth-quarter bookings looking strong, we are encouraged by the momentum and grateful to every traveler who chooses to fly RKS.”

The airport says the airport’s commercial service outpaces U.S. airline industry in its reliability averages in 2026. Through Sept. 30, 77.52% of flights arriving at the airport and departing Denver arrived within 14 minutes of their scheduled arrivals, compared to an industry average of 75.1%. Also, the airport reports a 99.54% completion rate with only five canceled flights out of 1,090. The airport’s completion rate is nearly two percentage points higher than the industry average of 97.69%.

According to the 2026 Wyoming Aviation Economic Impact Study, the airport supports 336 jobs, $15.3 million in yearly payroll, approximately $44 million in annual spending, and $59.3 million in annual economic activity. The airport also creates $1.7 million in local and state tax revenue and brings more than 18,000 annual visitors to the area, who spend money in the region’s hotels, businesses, and attractions.
