Higher fuel costs have eaten into Alaska’s profits and now the carrier says it will cut 200 back office roles to help with cost control.
Alaska Airlines is laying off 200 employees as it grapples with high fuel costs and has lost $416 million in the past nine months of the year.
The cuts only impact back office roles, so pilots, flight attendants, ramp agents, and maintenance technicians are among those that won’t be affected, a spokesperson confirmed to Skift. In Washington state, 148 employees will be impacted and in Hawaii, 48.
