3 New Routes, 1 New Destination: JetBlue Expands Its Network Today

JetBlue launches three routes today, adding Indianapolis to its network as Fort Lauderdale becomes its busiest airport.

JetBlue is launching three new nonstop routes today, expanding its network with two services from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and another connecting Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) with San Juan. The new additions bring Columbus back into its network and introduce Indianapolis as an entirely new destination for the airline. All three routes will operate daily using Airbus A320 aircraft.

The launches come amid a significant transformation of JetBlue's network, with Fort Lauderdale recently overtaking New York JFK as its busiest airport. The airline is capitalizing on the demise of Spirit Airlines to expand its South Florida presence, while preparing to introduce additional premium transcontinental services later this month.

JetBlue's latest expansion introduces daily nonstop flights from Fort Lauderdale to Indianapolis International Airport (IND) and John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH). The two new services are part of a broader expansion announced earlier this year, when the airline outlined plans to add 11 destinations from the South Florida airport.

Indianapolis represents the biggest milestone, becoming a new city in JetBlue's network. Columbus, meanwhile, welcomes the carrier back after an absence, giving travelers another option for reaching South Florida. The additions strengthen JetBlue's domestic connectivity from Fort Lauderdale, where the airline has been expanding aggressively throughout 2026. JetBlue CEO, Joanna Geraghty, had the following to say:

"We're building on our already strong foundation by adding more destinations, creating more connections and giving customers even more reasons to choose JetBlue. As Fort Lauderdale's leading airline, we see an opportunity to continue growing together with this community."

The new route from Baltimore to San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) builds on JetBlue's return to Baltimore back in July, when it introduced three daily flights to Fort Lauderdale. The new Puerto Rico service expands its reach from Maryland while reinforcing San Juan's importance within the airline's Caribbean network. Baltimore airport officials welcomed JetBlue's arrival, emphasizing the benefits of additional competition and connectivity.

The Fort Lauderdale expansion has led to it becoming JetBlue's busiest airport by scheduled departures, overtaking its longtime New York JFK Airport (JFK) stronghold. The change illustrates how dramatically the airline's network has shifted toward South Florida. Based on the winter schedule figures highlighted in a recent Simple Flying analysis of JetBlue's network changes, Fort Lauderdale now leads JFK by approximately six daily departures.

The expansion has been accelerated by Spirit Airlines' collapse and JetBlue's changing route network. JetBlue has introduced 15 destinations from Fort Lauderdale while increasing frequencies on existing routes. Its share of scheduled seats at the airport is expected to reach approximately 37% in the fourth quarter, an increase of 14 percentage points year-over-year. Peak daily departures will also exceed 150 this winter.

Crucially, the expansion is also delivering encouraging financial results. During the third quarter, Fort Lauderdale revenue per available seat mile (RASM) increased nearly 15% despite capacity growing by more than 65%. The expansion is also driving increased ancillary revenue, with co-branded credit card acquisitions in the region up 55%. The airline expects the maturing Fort Lauderdale operation to generate further unit revenue improvements as capacity growth moderates.

JetBlue's next significant Fort Lauderdale launch is scheduled for later this month on November 19, when daily nonstop flights to San Diego International Airport (SAN) begin. The route will feature the airline's premium JetBlue Mint business class, including fully lie-flat seating. This will give the airline a distinct advantage over Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines, which also operate the route, by making it the only airline with a lie-flat offering between the two airports.

The San Diego launch is part of a much wider transcontinental push. JetBlue is also adding Mint-equipped flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) this winter, creating its largest-ever Mint schedule from Fort Lauderdale. The airline ultimately plans to offer up to eight daily flights to Los Angeles and three to San Francisco, although these totals include services without Mint.

The premium expansion signals JetBlue's ambition to transform Fort Lauderdale into more than a gateway for leisure travelers heading to Florida and the Caribbean. By adding lie-flat business class capacity on key West Coast routes, the airline hopes to capture higher-yield passengers while differentiating itself from competitors. Combined with today's new domestic and Caribbean routes, the Mint expansion demonstrates how central Fort Lauderdale has become to JetBlue's future growth strategy.
