Breeze Airways is giving travelers more ways to get away. The Utah-based airline is adding nine new nonstop routes over the coming months, including new international service to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Breeze was founded by aviation entrepreneur David Neeleman, who also helped launch JetBlue, WestJet and Brazil’s Azul. The airline focuses on direct flights between smaller airports and underserved markets, and it operates a fleet of 66 Airbus A220-300 jets.
Starting Feb. 9, Breeze will connect Latrobe, Pennsylvania, with Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. No other airline currently flies this route. The service restores commercial flights at Latrobe, which lost air service when Spirit shut down.
Beginning May 4, Breeze will fly nonstop between Myrtle Beach and Boston Logan International Airport. The airline will compete with American Airlines and Delta Air Lines on the route.
Breeze has stepped in to fill a major gap at Myrtle Beach International Airport following Spirit’s exit. It is now one of the largest carriers at the airport by number of destinations served.
Starting May 26, Latrobe travelers will also be able to fly nonstop to Orlando International Airport. No other airline currently operates this route.
On Dec. 16, Breeze will launch flights from Tampa to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Because the island is a U.S. territory, travelers will not need a passport for this trip.
Breeze will begin flying from Tampa to Montego Bay, Jamaica, on Dec. 19. The route adds a popular Caribbean vacation spot to the airline’s growing international network.
Starting June 18, Breeze will add nonstop flights from Tampa to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The airline already flies from Tampa to Punta Cana, also in the Dominican Republic.
Beginning June 29, Breeze will connect Buffalo Niagara International Airport with Raleigh–Durham International Airport. This is the only new Buffalo route with competition, since Frontier Airlines flies it seasonally.
On July 1, Breeze will begin nonstop service between Buffalo and Myrtle Beach. No other airline currently flies this route.
Starting July 2, Breeze will add flights between Buffalo and Charleston, South Carolina. No other airline currently operates this route. All three Buffalo routes will launch in time for the peak summer travel season.
The new international routes join Breeze’s growing list of destinations from Tampa. The airline already flies from Tampa to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, San José in Costa Rica and Nassau in the Bahamas.
Breeze will also begin service from Tampa to Cancún, Mexico, on Dec. 18. That route was announced earlier.
When Spirit Airlines collapsed earlier this year, many popular vacation routes were left without service. Some carriers, like JetBlue, quickly expanded in places such as Fort Lauderdale, while others have been gradually picking up the routes Spirit left behind.
Breeze has focused on restoring service to smaller airports and connecting travelers with popular beach and vacation destinations, often on routes no other airline flies.
Travelers can book the new routes on Breeze’s website or app. Fares and schedules may vary by season.
