Heathrow flight with 181 passengers diverted after bomb threat

A plane carrying more than 180 passengers from a UK airport has been diverted following a bomb threat made against the aircraft.

The LOT Polish Airlines flight was en route to Warsaw from London Heathrow when it was forced to land at Warsaw Modlin Airport rather than its scheduled destination, Chopin Airport.

Flight LO286 departed London at 6.45am this morning and touched down around 10am local time (9am GMT). The Boeing 737 Max 8 is believed to have been carrying 181 people.

The Copenhagen flight departed Copenhagen Airport at 8.15am local time (7.15am GMT) and arrived at Chopin an hour later.

Emergency crews raced to Modlin Airport after the threat was received, with the airport now shut until further notice.

The incident is one of two involving bomb threats targeting flights bound for the Polish capital. A second aircraft, run by SAS and flying from Copenhagen, also received a similar threat.

That plane touched down at Warsaw Chopin Airport, which continues to operate, though adjustments have been made to its flight timetable.

Passengers have been advised of potential delays and flight alterations as emergency services remain on scene. It has not been confirmed whether either of the two aircraft was carrying any dangerous items or if the threat was a false alarm or hoax.

It has not yet been established whether any dangerous items were discovered on either aircraft or whether the threats were false alarms or hoaxes.
