Heathrow flight diverted after bomb threat

LOT Polish Airlines flight forced to land after bomb threat was made against the aircraft

A plane carrying more than 180 passengers from London Heathrow has been diverted after a bomb threat was made against the aircraft.

The LOT Polish Airlines flight was en route to Warsaw from Heathrow when it was forced to land at Warsaw Modlin Airport rather than its planned destination, Chopin Airport.

The Heathrow flight was flight LO286, which departed London at 6.45am today and touched down at around 10am local time (9am GMT). The aircraft, a Boeing 737 Max 8, is understood to have had 181 people on board.

The Copenhagen flight departed Copenhagen Airport at 8.15am local time (7.15am GMT) and landed at Chopin an hour later.

Emergency services scrambled to Modlin Airport following the threat, with the airport now closed until further notice.

The incident is one of two involving bomb threats against flights arriving in the Polish capital. A second aircraft, operated by SAS and travelling from Copenhagen, also received a similar threat.

That plane touched down at Warsaw Chopin Airport, which remains open, though its flight schedule has been subject to alterations.

Passengers have been warned to expect potential delays and schedule changes as emergency services continue to deal with the situation. It has not been confirmed whether either of the two planes carried any dangerous items or if the threat was a false alarm or hoax.

It has not yet been established whether any hazardous items were discovered on either aircraft, or whether the threats were hoaxes.
